Description:

Thos Cooke, Oakham

A lovely oak eight-day arched painted dial longcase clock, which has the most wonderful patina and has the most exquisite dial.

If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched moulded cornice and is finished which lovely brass pateras. The centre of the hood is also adorned with a superb brass eagle finial. The hood door has a lovely brass knob and is flanked by two beautifully turned full columns, which terminate in brass capitals. Above the door is loved shaped moulding with dog tooth moulding above which sets the hood off superbly.

The case with a full length shaped trunk door, has a super brass escutcheon which is raised on a base with shaped ogee bracket feet.

The dial is fabulous with gold leaf and painted swags and flowers to the corners and a superb arch which is also adorned in gold leaf and painted flowers. The eight-day movement with maker’s name of Thos Cooke, Oakham, strikes the hour, and has a date aperture and subsidiary second dial.
