Antique Eight Day Longcase / Grandfather Clock by Harrison, Ormskirk
This is a wonderful mahogany longcase clock which is in superb condition and has been made from the most exquisite mahogany. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks which have lovely brass pateras. Pretty reeded columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. The door also has a pretty little brass knob.
If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped full length door which has a wonderful flame of mahogany. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. Above the door is beautifully inlaid with stringing. The door is then flanked by quarter reeded columns.
Finally the base has canted corner and again has a superb flame of mahogany and is inlaid with a frame of stringing. Then it is raised on lovely ogee bracket feet.
The dial with makers name of 'HARRISON, ORMSKIRK, has the four corners adorned with beautiful delicately painted flowers which have been created in superb colors. The dial is set out with Roman numerals with smaller Arabic Numerals above. There are subsidiary second and date dials and two superb exotic birds painted to the centre of the dial. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.
The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell.
There is one 'HARRISON, ORMSKIRK' is listed in 'Lancashire Clocks and Clockmakers by Brian Loomes':
- 'Harrison, Richard. Ormskirk. Liverpool museum have watchmovement c1790-1800.'
