Description:

Antique Eight Day Longcase / Grandfather Clock by I & E Mason, Worcestor

This is a lovely little 8-Day oak and mahogany longcase clock which is in superb condition and is exceptionally detailed. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock of small proportions.

If we start with the hood, this has swan necks which have lovely brass pateras. Pretty turned columns flank the hood door. The door also has a pretty little turned knob. Above the hood door is nicely cross banded in mahogany and inlaid with stringing.

If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely lozenge diamond inlaid in the door. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. Above and below the door are lovely panels which have been cross banded with mahogany. The door is then flanked by quarter reeded columns.

Finally the base is raised on lovely little bracket feet.

The dial with makers name of 'I & E Mason, Worcestor', has the four corners adorned with beautiful delicate flowers which have been created in superb colors and which have a lovely dark red / maroon background. There is a subsidiary second dial and date aperture which is nicely edged in gold leaf. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers. The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell.

Mason is listed in 'Clockmakers and Watchmakers of Central England by Joseph McKenna':

‘Mason, John & Edward Goose Lane, Worcestor c1790-1820 Clockmakers. It states White dial clock signed 'I & E Mason, Worcestor' known, and an eight day longcase clock of about 1830. Brittens dates them to about 1790’.
