Antique Eight Day Halifax Moon Longcase / Grandfather Clock by Sagar, Blackburn
This is a lovely 8-Day Halifax Moon Mahogany longcase clock which has been made from the most exquisite mahogany and is exceptionally detailed.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks which have lovely turned pateras and to the centre is a nicely carved fan detail. Pretty turned columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. The door has a pretty little brass knob.
If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped fully length door which is inlaid with stringing and the centre has a wonderful flame of mahogany. The door is then flanked by square reeded columns and below these has been nicely inlaid with stringing.
Finally the base has canted corners and is again nicely inlaid with stringing and the centre has a wonderful flame of mahogany. Then it is raised on lovely ogee bracket feet.
The dial with makers name of 'Sagar, Blackburn, has the four corners adorned with the most exquisite roses which have a lovely decorative surround which has been combined with gold leaf to give a very striking effect. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals. There is a subsidiary date dials.
The Halifax moon is wonderful and in addition to the moons has two lovely scenes of cottages in the countryside. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers. The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell.
