Antique Rolling Moon Longcase / Grandfather Clock by J : Halliwell, Warrington
This is a beautiful inlaid mahogany rolling moon long case clock. It has an eight-day movement on a broken arch painted face with rolling moon.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched molded cornice and stunning Rose carved pateras. To the centre of the swan necks is a wonderful central pediment which has delicately carved droplets. The hood door is flanked by full reeded columns. To the rear of the hood are reeded back slats. The hood door is also inlaid with Chevron stringing.
The freeze above the hood door is exquisite having glass panels which have a lovely deep blue background and floral gilding, which set the hood off beautifully.
Moving down to the trunk, the shaped door has the most stunning flame of light mahogany which is framed with Chevron inlay. Just below the door is a lovely inlaid panel with an oval of chevron inlay with a centre of light mahogany. Above the door is a rectangular panel with has stringing inlay. The door is complete with a fully working lock and key.
The base has a lovely central flame of mahogany with is framed in shaped chevron inlay. The front corner to the base is also nicely chamfered.
The eight-day movement with makers name of 'J: Halliwell, Warrington', is rack striking and chimes out the hours on a single bell.
