Description: T. Bevan, Middlewich

This is a beautiful mahogany long case clock, which is of super grand proportions. It has an eight-day movement on an arched painted face with Rolling Moon.

If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched moulded cornice and super brass Rosetta patera. To the centre and below the swan necks there is the most wonderful blue painted glass. Exquisite reeded columns flank the hood door with a total of eight columns adorning the hood.

Moving down to the trunk, the shaped door is flanked by full reeded columns. The door has the most exquisite satinwood oval panel which is edged in tulip wood and boxwood inlay. Just below the door is a mahogany applied panel, with moulded shaped edge.

Finally moving down to the base, the four corners to the base are beautifully inlaid with fans. The shaped applied panel is cross banded with tulip wood and boxwood. The base has chamfered corners and is raised on ogee bracket feet.

The eight-day movement with maker’s name of T. Bevan, Middlewich, is rack striking and chimes out the hours on a single bell. It also has an arched painted face with a Rolling Moon, subsidiary second and date dials. The four corners are beautifully adorned with the most stunning paints flowers and cherries. The paintings as you will see from the close up photographs are incredibly finely painted. The Rolling moon incorporates a lovely galleon and a cottage scene again these painting are extremely detailed.

This is a most interesting clock as T. Bevan of Middlewich is an unrecorded maker. From the style of this clock it is circa 1800.
