Description: Collinson, Kendal : This is a superb architectural oak and mahogany cross-banded eight-day longcase clock, on square dial. The hood has a superb architectural pediment, above delicate turned columns. Then moving down to the trunk this has a shaped full-length door, which is cross-banded in mahogany and flanked by quarter turned columns. The base is cross-banded in mahogany and raised upon bracket feet. The eight-day movement with makers name of Collinson, Wigan, striking the hour has and square painted face, subsidiary second and date dials. The four corners are adorned with gold leaf and delicately painted flowers. There is one Collinson of Kendal listed in ‘Westmorland Clocks and Clockmakers by Brian Loomes’: · Collinson, Benjamin. Kendal. Clock and Watchmaker with shop in Sramongate from 1816 to 1851. Various white dial clocks noted c1810 – 20.
