Description: G. Collings, Dunstable: A wonderful mellow oak colour eight-day longcase clock, with arched painted dial. The hood with a lovely shaped pediment is edged with moulding and is flanked by two lovely fluted sections. The hood is flanked by three quarter reeded columns to the front and quarter reed columns to the rear which all terminate in brass capitals. The shaped full-length trunk door is edged in a delicate moulding. The base is raised on a plinth. In ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World Volume 2 by Brian Loomes’ there is only one Collings of Dunstable listed: · Thomas George. Dunstable. 1830-64. It is highly likely that this is the maker of this clock and that he chose to go by his middle name.
